Seat Toledo Diesel Engine Noise and Performance Issue

I am writing to report a malfunction I have observed on my Seat Toledo, build year 2012, equipped with a diesel engine, with a current mileage of 112034 km. The vehicle manifests a distinct engine noise, accompanied by a perceived reduction in engine performance. Upon closer inspection, it appears the belt-handover mechanism no longer functions as intended. My hypothesis is that the belt bringer itself is defective. This issue may be related to the belt drive system. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Sounds like a tensioner pulley issue. I had similar engine noise and loss of engine performance with my old Renault Megane. Check if the serpentine belt is properly aligned and tensioned. A failing tensioner can cause the belt to slip.

Thank you for your input. When you mention "tensioner", are you referring to the belt bringer itself, or perhaps the tensioner pulley?

Yes, I meant the tensioner pulley. If the pulley is worn or damaged, it won't maintain proper tension on the serpentine belt. This can cause engine noise and affect engine performance. I suggest you visit a workshop to get it checked.

I appreciate you sharing your experience. It seems my Toledo had a similar issue. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed the belt tensioner pulley was defective. The final bill came to 455€, including parts and labor. Now everything works as expected.
