When you mention the regeneration process, are you referring to the vehicle attempting to burn off the soot accumulation within the filter? What diagnostic steps did you take to confirm the issue with your Opel?

Yes, the regeneration process is intended to burn off accumulated soot. In my case, a diagnostic tool indicated excessive backpressure. The vehicle inspection also revealed a fault code related to the diesel particulate filter. Given your symptoms, it would be prudent to have the vehicle inspected by a qualified workshop.

I appreciate the insights. The workshop confirmed the diesel particulate filter was defective. The total repair cost, including parts and labor, came to 1550€. Fuel efficiency should improve now.

Reduced engine power and smoke suggest a potential issue with backpressure in the exhaust system. Have you noticed the engine light illuminating on the dashboard? I experienced similar symptoms in my 2012 Opel Insignia. It turned out to be a clogged diesel particulate filter. The regeneration process might not be functioning correctly.
