Seat Toledo Diesel Engine Trouble
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Seat Toledo diesel was experiencing poor fuel economy, stalling when idling, a check engine light, and smoke during acceleration. These symptoms suggested a possible defective mass air flow (MAF) sensor. After confirming the diagnosis at a garage, replacing the MAF sensor resolved the issues, improving the car's performance and fuel efficiency.

Air-fuel ratio? How do I check that? Can I do it myself, or is special equipment needed? What's the correct value for my engine?

You'd need a diagnostic tool to read the air-fuel ratio. Given the symptoms and mileage, a faulty MAF sensor is likely. I'd recommend taking it to a workshop to confirm. It could save time and money. I bet a new MAF sensor will solve it.

Thanks for the help! The garage confirmed your diagnosis. A new MAF sensor was fitted, costing 365€. The car runs great now. No more smokey starts, and the fuel economy is already better!

That sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Toledo. The engine stalling and the check engine light suggest a MAF sensor failure. Have you checked the air-fuel ratio?
