Seat Toledo engine issue advice

I am experiencing some issues with my 2004 Seat Toledo, gasoline engine. The check engine light is illuminated, and I've noticed a reduction in engine power along with higher fuel consumption. Diagnostic indicates a faulty exhaust temperature sensor. I suspect it might be related to a leak in the exhaust system. Any advice on how to proceed?

I had a similar issue with my Seat Toledo. The engine management light was on, and the car felt sluggish. Have you checked for any obvious signs of exhaust leaks? Any hissing sounds, especially when the engine is cold? What is the temperature fluctuation like when the engine is idling versus when it's under load?

I haven't specifically checked for hissing sounds, but I will now. When you say temperature fluctuation, are you referring to the readings from the exhaust sensor itself? How would I determine if the fluctuation is normal or excessive?

Yes, I was referring to the exhaust sensor readings. If the temperature fluctuates wildly, even at a constant engine speed, it's a strong indicator of a problem, likely a leak affecting the sensor's readings. Given the symptoms, I recommend taking it to a workshop for a proper inspection of the exhaust system and sensor replacement. It's crucial for proper engine management and emission control.

I appreciate you confirming my suspicions. As suspected, the exhaust sensor was faulty, likely due to a leak in the exhaust system. Replacing the sensor and fixing the leak set me back 265€. Hopefully, that will solve the problem. Thank you for your assistance.
