Seat Toledo Gearbox Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Seat Toledo with 180,373 km is experiencing gearbox slipping and rough shifting, suspected to be due to a transfer case oil wear fault or defective gears. Checking the gear oil level and condition is suggested, as degraded oil with metal particles can indicate mechanical wear. The issue was confirmed to be significant mechanical wear in the transfer case, which was repaired for 330€, resolving the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did check the oil level, it was fine, but I didn't really pay attention to the condition. What should I be looking for specifically? Any telltale signs?

If the level is okay but the shifting is still rough, it's likely not just low oil. When I drained mine, there were metal particles in the oil, which indicated mechanical wear. If you see that, you're probably looking at a transfer case issue. It's best to get it checked out by a workshop.

The transfer case was indeed the problem, with significant mechanical wear. Repair cost 330€, but the car is driving smoothly again.

That sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Seat Leon, though it wasn't quite as advanced. Have you checked the gear oil level and condition? Sometimes just an oil change can make a difference, especially if the oil is old and degraded. What does the old oil look like?
