Seat Toledo Overheating and Check Engine Light

I'm starting to get really frustrated with my 2016 Seat Toledo. It's got a gasoline engine. Lately, the engine's been overheating and the check engine light keeps popping on. I also noticed coolant spilling under the car, seems like there's excessive pressure in the cooling system. Car diagnostics pointed to a control unit communication error. Could this be a defective cable or plug connection?

Sounds like a similar issue I had with my Seat Leon. Overheating and the check engine light are never fun. Have you run car diagnostics to check for any specific error codes? A faulty sensor or a CAN bus problem could definitely trigger those symptoms.

I did run car diagnostics and it showed a control unit communication error. I'm just not sure where to start looking for a defective cable or plug connection. Could it also be a software glitch?

Yeah, a control unit communication error confirms it. A software glitch is possible, but less likely than a physical connection problem. Given the coolant spill, I'd strongly suggest getting it checked out by a mechanic. It's best to avoid driving it too much in that condition to prevent further damage. Excessive pressure in the cooling system could lead to bigger problems.

Took your advice and brought it to a trusted mechanic. Turns out it was a defective plug connection, exactly as suspected. They re-seated it and cleared the codes. Total cost 95€. A relatively easy fix in the end. Thanks again for your help!
