Seat Toledo power window issue

Hello, I'm having a problem with the power windows on my 2014 Seat Toledo with a diesel engine. After replacing the vehicle battery, the power windows no longer work. The error memory shows some kind of fault related to window regulator initialization. I suspect it's something to do with the car window losing its settings when the battery was disconnected, but I'm not sure how to fix it. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

After replacing the battery in a 2014 Seat Toledo, the power windows stopped functioning, likely due to a loss of window regulator settings. The issue appears to be related to the car's electronics forgetting the window limits, a common problem after battery disconnection. Attempts to reset the windows manually were unsuccessful, indicating a need for recalibration using diagnostic software. Ultimately, a visit to a workshop was necessary to resolve the initialization failure and restore window functionality.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds like a frustrating situation. I had a similar problem with my old Volvo after the battery died. The car electronics can get a bit scrambled when that happens. The window controls basically forget their limits. Did you try the 'window reset' procedure? It usually involves holding the window switch down for a few seconds after the window is fully closed. If that doesn't work, it might indeed be a window regulator issue requiring recalibration. Are you getting any specific error codes?

Thanks for the quick reply! I did try the reset procedure I found online – holding the button down, holding it up, various combinations. No luck. When you say 'recalibration', does that require special tools or software? Is it something a regular user can do, or am I looking at a trip to the shop?

Yeah, 'recalibration' usually means using diagnostic software to tell the window motor where the top and bottom positions are. Think of it like the car's computer needs to relearn the window's full range of motion. Without the proper software, you're probably stuck. While a faulty window motor or window regulator itself could be the issue, the fact that it happened right after the battery change strongly suggests an initialization problem. Honestly, to save yourself a headache, a trip to a workshop with the right tools is probably your best bet. They can quickly diagnose the issue and recalibrate the window regulator. Good luck!

Took the Toledo to the workshop as suggested. They confirmed the window regulator initialization failure. Ended up costing 290€, but at least the windows are working again. Thanks for the advice!
