Sedici Diesel Rough Cold Start

Hi, I'm having trouble with my 2011 Fiat Sedici diesel. It's got 176970 km on the clock. Lately, it's been running really rough when I first start it up in the cold, and the fuel consumption seems higher than usual. Also, the engine light came on and the error memory has a fault stored. A friend suggested it might be the electric auxiliary heater, and that does seem plausible. Anyone else experienced this? What could be the issue?

Summary of the thread

A 2011 Fiat Sedici diesel is experiencing rough cold starts and increased fuel consumption, with an engine light indicating a fault. The issue is suspected to be related to the electric auxiliary heater, specifically the PTC heater, which is confirmed by an error code. The suggested solution is to have the PTC heater checked and potentially replaced, as this resolved similar issues for another owner, with an estimated repair cost of around 350€.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar! I've got a Sedici diesel too, and had similar symptoms last winter. Rough running when cold, and the fuel consumption definitely took a hit. Did you notice any issues with the blower motor or temperature control? Check your HVAC system. Could be an electrical fault related to the heating system. To be sure, which error code is being stored? That piece of information would be very helpful.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't noticed any problems with the blower motor or the temperature control itself, it seems to be working fine. I should have mentioned: I don't have the error code to hand, but a local workshop told me it was pointing to the PTC heater. Is that the same thing you experienced? How did you sort it out? Also, is it expensive?

Yep, PTC heater was exactly my problem. Mine was completely defective, and caused all sorts of issues. Since the error code points to the PTC heater too, I'd bet that's your culprit as well. If I were you, I'd go to a workshop and have them confirm it. I ended up replacing mine. The repair cost me around 350€. It's not cheap, but it solved the problem. Good luck!

Thanks a lot for confirming, that’s really helpful! I was hoping it wouldn't be too expensive, but 350€ isn't the end of the world. I'll book it into the workshop and get it sorted. Glad to know what to expect. Thanks again for your help!
