Sedici Knocking Combustion Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Fiat Sedici is experiencing knocking combustion, noticeable during acceleration, with reduced power, jerking, and smoke. The issue could be related to ignition timing or engine tuning. Potential causes include excessive deposits in the combustion chamber, a faulty knock sensor, or problematic cylinder heads. It is advised to have a professional workshop perform a detailed inspection, including checking the knock sensor and conducting compression and leak-down tests.

I use the recommended fuel octane. Haven't checked the knock sensor or cylinder heads. How do I check the knock sensor, and what if the cylinder heads are problematic?

Diagnosing a faulty knock sensor requires specialized equipment. Assessing cylinder heads accurately needs professional inspection, like a compression and leak-down test. DIY might seem appealing, but the error codes and symptoms point to internal engine issues. I recommend a qualified workshop for assessment.

Thanks for the advice. I'll schedule a workshop inspection. Estimated repair cost is 425€. I'll post the diagnosis and resolution.

Sounds like a combustion issue. Could be excessive deposits in the combustion chamber, altering compression and causing pre-ignition or detonation. What fuel octane are you using? Has the knock sensor been checked? What about the cylinder heads?
