Seeking advice for ABS/DSC system failure and power steering issues on my 2014 BMW 3 series gasoline engine

ABS/DSC system is not working

Power steering without function

Vibrating/shaking steering wheel

Good afternoon everyone, I'm having problems with my 2014 BMW 3 series gasoline and I'm really worried. It now has 103,843 kilometers on it and I'm currently struggling with a few symptoms such as ABS/DSC system failure, non-functional power steering and a vibrating steering wheel. My guess is that it somehow has to do with the signal failure of the electric power steering. Has anyone had any experience of this or anything similar with their car? My last garage experience wasn't that great and I just want to know what others have done in this situation. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2011 BMW 1 Series. My car had about that many kilometers on the odometer and showed similar symptoms. ABS/DSC system failure and a vibrating steering wheel were definitely there. After some hesitation, I took it to the garage after all. The mechanic then carried out a complete diagnosis. It turned out that it was actually the signal for the electric power steering that was faulty. It was a serious matter, as this affects the entire driving behavior. The repair took some time as they had to completely check the power steering system and also replace a few parts. So I ended up using a replacement vehicle. In any case, you should take it to the garage as soon as possible to have it checked. I hope this helps you! All the best!

Hi, thanks for your reply. Your experience sounds pretty similar to what I'm going through with my 3 right now. Do you remember what you paid for the repair and if there were any other problems afterwards? any changes in driving dynamics or anything? I just want to know if there could be any more surprises. Thank you very much!

Hi, no problem! Yes, after I took the car to the mechanic, the signal error in the electric power steering was fixed. I had to pay around €155 for the repair of the faulty cable/connector, which I thought was pretty fair. After the repair, there were no further problems. The handling even improved! You know how it is when you suddenly realize that your car is driving 'normally' again. There were no nasty surprises. I would advise you not to stress yourself. Just go to the garage and see what they say. Good luck with that!

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience. You've definitely put my mind at ease. 155 sounds really fair and it's good to hear that there were no other surprises. I will also try not to stress myself and just get it checked out. Of course, it's always more helpful to know what to expect. Thanks again! I'll be heading to the garage soon and hopefully they'll have a similar fix for my car. All the best to you!

Servus, Has the fault memory ever been read out? Is only the 4x4 light really on or is the ABS/DSC light also on? Firstly, it is possible that the drive shafts on the rear axle are "rusted". The encoder wheels for the ABS sensors are installed on the drive shafts. Over time, these become rusty and become larger due to the rust. As a result, the ABS ring on the ABS sensor grinds, which means that accurate measurement by the ABS sensor or the ABS control unit is no longer possible. On the other hand, it is also possible that the adjustment motor or the adjustment in the transfer case of the X-Drive system is defective, which means that the drive force can no longer be distributed. This could also explain the vibration in your steering wheel. But first of all, it would be good to read out the vehicle to get an initial indication.

When I was reading out, the dsc error occurred and the speedometer displayed a yellow triangle symbol

What exactly was the error called? Or do you still have the code? Without a description of the error code, it is unfortunately difficult to make any further statements.
