Seeking Advice on 2000 Hyundai Galloper Diesel Issues: Black Smoke, Check Engine Light, Drop in power, and Unsteady Acceleration
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Hyundai Galloper Diesel is experiencing black smoke, a check engine light, power loss, unsteady acceleration, a loud hiss, stalling, a whistle sound, and shaking while idling. The suspected cause is a malfunction in the boost pressure system, possibly a defective Wastegate valve, as a similar issue was resolved in a Hyundai Terracan by replacing this component. The recommendation is to have a professional diagnostic check at a workshop to confirm the issue and proceed with repairs.

Hey, thanks for the response. Really appreciate it! I think you might be onto something with that Wastegate valve defect. I've got my Galloper clocked at 33143 KM, so it's seen a bit of road. Last service was done a few months back. Will take your advice and get it checked out at a workshop. If it's the same issue as yours, hopefully the repair costs are close to what you paid. Fingers crossed it’s not a major issue. Cheers!

Hey, no problem! We're all here to help each other out, right? I'd certainly say your mileage aligns with when I started seeing issues with my Terracan. It sounds like you've been taking good care of your Galloper though, with regular servicing and all that. Really hope it's just the Wastegate valve - not a fun problem to have, but at least it's a known entity, right? Because it’s a common problem, many mechanics should be able to diagnose and fix it. And the repair cost I mentioned earlier is a pretty standard rate, so you shouldn't expect to pay much more than that, unless there are other underlying issues. Good luck with the workshop! I’m hoping for the best! Keep us posted on what they find, it can come handy for fellow Hyundai diesel owners. Cheers!

I'll definitely keep you folks in the loop. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it's been a massive help already. I just hope it's the Wastegate valve and nothing more serious. Fingers crossed the repair doesn't blow a hole in my wallet. Will give an update once the mechanics have had a look, might be helpful for someone else down the line. Here's to hoping for the best. Cheers!

Hey there! I'm by no means a car expert, but I do have some experience under my belt with issues like this. A couple of years back, I was dealing with a similar situation on my 1998 Hyundai Terracan Diesel. Turned out to be a Wastegate valve defect. I had black smoke, check engine light - the whole nine yards. I took my Terracan into the local workshop. The folks there were top-notch; they ran a diagnostic quick and found the defective valve. I paid around 860€ to get it fixed. The buggy behaved beautifully after the repair - no smoke, no weird sounds, nothing. Things were back to smooth sailing again. Maybe it's a similar issue for your Galloper? I’d suggest having a professional take a look. Of course, to provide more detailed help, it'd be useful to gather more vehicle info (like mileage, maintenance history). Hope this helps!
