Oh those symptoms sound all too familiar. Happened to my old Peugeot a few years back. Turned out to be a worn-out fuel injector, like the previous response mentioned. By the way, any idea how much the replacement and fix-up cost was for your 308? I can't seem to recall my own expenses - mechanic bills are the sort I prefer to forget! Also, just out of curiosity, have you experienced similar troubles since then or was the injector swap a complete fix? Cheers, and hope all's smooth with your ride now.

Hey, yep, I feel you on the mechanic bills amnesia - I'd also prefer to forget those figures! As for the faded injector, it did turn out to be a pricey affair. Reckon it was around 515 Euro to swap the bad boy out. I can’t say I was thrilled to let go of that cash, but it was definitely worth it. Since that last visit to the mechanic, the lean mixture issue hasn't reoccurred and my dear 308 is running like a dream now. I reckon fixing that injector sorted out the bulk of errors. So, rest assured once you replace that faulty injector, all those annoying symptoms should vanish like they did in my case. Cheers, and best of luck with your 306 fixing!

Cheers for that, fellas. This information is exactly what I needed. Can't say I'm thrilled about the potential cost, but if it resolves the issue, then it'll be well worth it. I hope my 306 behaves much like your 308 after that! I'll get her checked out by the mechanic soon and see about replacing that suspect injector. Thanks again, guys. Always nice to get advice from who've been through a similar ordeal!

Hey! I feel your trouble. Can't say for sure without seeing the car, but it does sound like you might be dealing with an injector failure. I've got a 2005 Peugeot 308 and experienced similar symptoms a couple of years back - black smoke, reduced engine power, high fuel consumption, foul exhaust odor, you name it. Turns out it was a degraded injector that was causing the ruckus. My garage guy explained that it was unable to spray enough fuel into the cylinder, which resulted in all the symptoms I was experiencing. Needed a replacement obviously, can't recall how much it cost, but I remember it being a bit of a serious issue because it impacted the car performance significantly if not addressed correctly. Watch out especially for how your car behaves on cold starts - in my case, it was extremely reluctant to start in the mornings. It's kind of hard to miss it, trust me. Hope this helps, good luck with your 306!
