Seeking Advice on 2005 Kia Carens' Engine Problems: Possible Faulty Cold Start Injector?
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Kia Carens is experiencing engine problems, including black smoke on acceleration, a persistent check engine light, engine stalling, rough idling, poor fuel efficiency, and cold start issues. The suspected cause is a faulty cold start injector. A similar issue was resolved by replacing a defective injector, but it is advised to conduct a professional diagnostic to confirm the problem before purchasing new injectors, as it could potentially be a different issue like a sensor malfunction.

Hey. Thanks for the reply! Yeah, you're spot on, sounds pretty similar to what I'm dealing with. My Carens has about 157725 KM on the clock. Yeah, I had a major service done on it at around 150K KM, but nothing too specific relating to the engine, just general maintenance. But it worked smooth until recently. I'll start looking around for a good deal on those injectors, then. Appreciate the help! Cheers.

No worries! Glad to be of help. With the mileage you mentioned, it kinda makes sense for the injectors to start wearing out, plus that major service could have triggered something. It's a pain, seriously. Before you start shelling out on new injectors, you might wanna consider getting a professional diagnostic done. In my experience, local workshops or even some of those auto parts stores provide this service. It could save you some bucks if it turns out to be something else, like a sensor or something. Oh, and if you got any lights flashing on your dashboard like a Christmas tree, note it down. It might come in handy when you are addressing the issue. Who knows, right? Keep us updated on your progress. Chin up, you'll get this sorted out soon enough!

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely get that professional diagnostic done before I invest in new injectors, don't want to spend more than I need to. And I'll make sure to take note of any flashing lights on the dashboard. Really appreciate your insight into this, dude. Fingers crossed this gets sorted out soon, don't fancy being without my wheels for too long! Will keep you guys updated for sure. Cheers!

Hey there. Yeah, I can relate. I got a 2007 Kia Magentis, not too different from your Carens, acting crazy in a similar way like a drunken mule last summer. Now, I ain't some car genius, just a guy with a bit of experience under the hood. Took it to my local workshop and long story short, turned out to be a defective injector, kinda like what you suspected. Had 'em replaced and voila, smooth as butter! Set me back about 515€, but hey, at least it purrs like a kitten now. Quick question though, what's the mileage on your ride? And have you had any previous work done on the engine? That info might help me give you a bit more tailored advice. Hang in there!
