Seeking Advice on 2016 Toyota Venza's Faulty Electric Steering Column Adjustment

Hey guys, I've got a 2016 Toyota Venza, gasoline engine, clocked in at about 145,823 KM. I've been dealing with an issue where the electric steering column adjustment ain't working. My best guess, I've got a dud in the motor for that adjustment. I've had a pretty rough run-in with my last mechanic and would like to handle it better this time. Anyone out there who's had similar issues, and how'd it go down at your mechanic's? Any insight would be a lifesaver!

Hey, totally feel you. I had a similar issue with my 2019 Toyota Rav4. The problem was indeed with the steering column, but more specifically, it turned out to be the motor cable connection that was defective. My mechanic figured it out after a few tests, traced the problem back right there and ironed it out. In terms of severity, I wouldn't classify it as a catastrophic failure or anything, but it definitely needed attention promptly. You don't want to be driving around with a wonky steering column. It was a fairly smooth process once the issue had been identified. Just make sure you voice your concerns clearly to your mechanic, let them know the symptoms and that you suspect a defective motor cable in the steering column. That might help them narrow down the problem quicker. Best of luck, dude!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! That's really helpful, totally puts my mind at ease. I was planning on just telling my mechanic "hey, steering's the issue, figure it out", but your advice has given me a better route. By the way, do you remember about how much the whole shebang cost you to fix up? And has anything else in the steering cropped up since then? Just trying to prepare myself for any wild surprises down the road. Cheers!

Hey there, glad I could help a bit. As you asked about the cost, yeah, fixing up the whole steering column motor cable tinkering set me back by about 155.00 €. It wasn't quite the bargain of the century, but hey, at least my steering isn't acting all crazy anymore. And since you're curious, the steering's been fine after that repair. That particular issue seems to have been sorted once and for all since my mechanic put his magic touch on it. So far, it's been smooth sailing on that front! Make sure you keep a close eye on it should anything else decide to act up. Good luck with your ride!

Hey dude, I appreciate the insight and the heads up on the costs. 155 € is a bit of a punch but hey, safety first right? At least I can drive without constantly worrying about my steering going haywire. Good to hear that it was a once and done deal for you, gives me hope that I would be in the clear too after this repair. I'll make sure to keep a sharp eye on the steering front, and fingers crossed nothing else decides to play up. Thanks for the help again. Ride safe!
