Seeking Advice on Diagnosing and Addressing Mixture Control Errors in a 2021 Kia Sorento

Hey, got a bit of a head scratcher with my 2021 Kia Sorento with a Gas engine. Been noticing a bunch of odd signs like black smoke puffing out on acceleration, the check-engine light flickering, sluggish cold starts, and decreased horsepower, not to mention a jerky ride and worse gas mileage than usual. There's also a powerful stink from the exhaust. I’m leaning towards a mixture control error with the mix being too rich. Anyone else run into issues like this? I'm curious to hear how you diagnosed and fixed them at your workshop and what you learned from it. Any advice welcomed!

Hello good morning a month or so ago I got engine failure and it turns out that it was the lambda sensor 1 bank 1 sensor change the probe for a new one because the mixture was rich and it turns out that since then until today I still inject too much fuel I notice because it has a lot of power ie has rich mixture and I do not know what it can be haver if you can help me thanks

Hi Bryan43g, if you're still experiencing a rich fuel mixture after replacing the lambda sensor, there could be other factors at play. A faulty fuel pressure regulator or a leaking fuel injector could cause an excessive amount of fuel to enter the engine. Additionally, a malfunctioning mass air flow sensor could be sending incorrect air flow readings to the engine control unit, leading to an improper air-fuel mixture. I would recommend having these components checked by a professional mechanic. This issue could potentially affect the safety and performance of your vehicle, so it's important to have it addressed as soon as possible. Please keep us updated on your progress. Do you have any other questions?

Yes and also I do not jump or engine failure or anything by the way I changed the fuel pressure regulator and still the same injects more fuel and I do not get my failure or anything but I notice that the car has more power could help me thanks carlymechanic

Hi Bryan43g, if you've already replaced the fuel pressure regulator and the issue persists, it might be a good idea to check the fuel injectors and the mass air flow sensor, as I mentioned earlier. A professional mechanic should be able to test these components for you. If these checks don't reveal the issue, it might be necessary to have a more comprehensive diagnostic test performed on your vehicle's engine control unit. This could potentially reveal any hidden issues that are causing the rich fuel mixture. Please keep us updated on your progress. Do you have any other questions?
