Seeking Advice on Non-Functional Brake Light in 2011 Volvo XC90 Hybrid

Hey everyone, I've got a bit of a concern about my 2011 Volvo XC90 Hybrid, she's done about 155,225 KM by now. Sadly, my brake light's stopped working. I suspect the issue could be 'brake light signal implausible' or something on those lines, as that's the error popping up. I'm a bit hesitant to visit my usual mechanic due to a not-so-great experience last time. Has anyone had a similar rad light problem? Especially with a Volvo? What was your experience with your mechanic? Any advice would be really appreciated! Cheers!

Hey! So, I can totally relate. Had a similar issue with my 2010 Volvo S80 about a year ago. Thought it was something minor initially but turned out it was indeed a 'brake light signal implausible' error. It's basically when the system doesn't receive the expected info from the brake light circuit. Took it to my usual garage, you know, the fix wasn't as simple as changing a bulb, but it wasn't a super complex situation either. I remember the mechanic had to dismantle part of the rear tail light assembly and replaced an electronic module as part of the repair. So overall, not exactly a minor problem, but nothing super crazy either. My advice - better get it checked out by a pro unless you're pretty handy with car electronics. Good luck!

Hey there! Your experience sounds eerily similar to mine! My XC90 seems to have caught that same bug. Glad to hear it wasn't too complex to sort out, although the mention of replacing an electronic module has me a bit on edge. Just curious, do you remember how much you were set back by for the fix? And have you come across any other issues since then? Little worried if this is just the beginning of some unwelcome surprises! Thanks a bunch for your advice, really appreciate it! Cheers!

Hey there! No worries at all, happy to share. While I can't recall the exact amount I paid for that fix, I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't make my wallet cry at all. In fact, it was a big fat ZERO on the invoice! The good news - it turned out to be just a User error. Also, about post-repair issues, rest easy because I’ve had pretty smooth sailing since taking my Volvo to the mechanic. Been a year since that problem and the brake light’s been behaving like a champ! I hope it turns out to be a simple fix for your XC90 too! Good luck and keep us posted. Cheers!

Hey again! Wow! Now that's some news to put a smile on my face - a zero-invoice! Wouldn't mind having a User error this time for my Volvo, ha! Good to hear about the lack of post-repair issues too, really puts my mind at ease. Thanks a ton for sharing your experience! I'll take my XC90 to the mechanic, hopefully, it'll be as straightforward as your case. I'll definitely keep you all posted on how it goes. Cheers and thanks again!
