Seeking Advice on Transmission Issues and Grinding Noise in 2003 Diesel Volvo V70

Hey guys, I've got a bit of a head-scratcher with my 2003 Diesel Volvo V70. Lately, it's been acting up with the transmission slipping and shifting in a really weird way. Also, there's this grinding noise when I shift gears and continuous whining sounds. I'm suspecting it could be something to do with the transmission oil pressure, but not entirely sure. Have any of you experienced a similar problem or have an idea of what might be going wrong? Really interested in how you got it sorted out. Any advice or workshop experience insights would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I've got a 2001 Volvo S60, pretty close to your V70. I'm no expert, just a guy with some car experience. I ran into a similar issue last year. It turned out my transmission oil level was too low which was causing the weird shifting. I took it to my local workshop and they fixed it without a hitch. Cost me 365 Euro to sort out, but it was worth it. Just to be sure, could you share info on the last time you checked or changed your transmission fluid? Depending on the mileage and driving conditions, it could be due for a change. All the best!

Hey, appreciate the quick response! You're right, it's been quite a while since my last transmission fluid change. As of today, my Volvo's done 37757 KM since its latest service and tbh, not sure when was the last time had it changed. I'm guessing it could be due by now. Gonna take it to my local garage this week. Fingers crossed it's just a simple fix and nothing serious. Thanks again!

Hey there! Glad to hear you're taking action. Seems like you're about due for a transmission fluid change anyway with that many kilometers since your last service. It might very well be the cause of the odd behavior you've noticed. As far as the grinding noise, that can also be a sign of low transmission fluid. On the other hand, if the fluid exchange doesn't help, it might be a worn-out component in the transmission. Could be anything from a bad bearing to a worn gear, so make sure your mechanic checks it thoroughly. And no problem at all, happy to help! Keep us updated on the progress, and, of course, we're here if you have any more questions. Drive safe!

I appreciate the detailed response and the support. I'll keep you and everyone else updated on how it goes. Cheers and safe driving to you as well!
