Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting Startup Issues in 2002 Diesel Volvo V70 Possibly Linked to Parking Heater

Hey folks, I need some advice on my 2002 Diesel Volvo V70. Lately, the car's been having trouble starting up. I have a hunch it might be down to a faulty parking heater. Anyone else here experienced something similar? What did your workshop do to fix it? Any tips or knowledge would be appreciated. Cheers!

Hey there, I had a similar fuss with my 2000 Diesel Volvo S60. I'm not much of a car expert, would say low to some experience, but I remember the pain. The issue with mine was indeed a defective Glow plug, not the parking heater. Took it down to my local workshop and it got fixed right up. It set me back about 560 Euro, but the difference in performance was evident. Straight off the bat, it was a lot easier to start in sub-zero temperatures. But hey, to ensure I'm guiding you correctly, could you give more specifics about your situation? Mileage, any warning lights on, last service history? Maybe it can help jog my memory for more precise advice. Hope this helps!

Hey there, thanks for the response. It does give me hope. No significant warning lights on for now. The mileage on my Volvo V70 is at 139571 KM. It's been a bit since it last had a service though, truth be told. Will get that checked along with the glow plug issue you mentioned. Fingers crossed it doesn't burn a hole in my pocket! Thanks again .

Hey there! Happy to help. Sounds like you maintain your Volvo well, low mileage for a 2002 model! And no worries, we all procrastinate on that regular service check-up, sometimes. Anyway, back to your car issue, based on what I experienced, the mileage on your car doesn't seem too concerning in relation to starting problems. I'd definitely recommend a check up on that glow plug, especially given the cold weather. Also, keep an eye on the battery and starter motor. The diesel models of our Volvos do have some issues with them, particularly as they age. And about burning a hole in your pocket, the cost of dealing with a faulty glow plug might be less than you fear. I live in France and the inspection and/or replacements done mostly range from 150 to 400 Euro based on my buddies' experiences. It largely depends on labour costs and the part used, of course. Keep us posted on how it goes and don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions. Drive safe!

Hey, thanks a ton for all the advice and reassurance. You've really put me at ease. I'll definitely take your advice on board and get that glow plug, battery and starter motor checked out. I'll keep my fingers crossed the costs stay within that range you mentioned. Wifi high-five to you from the Netherlands! I'll let you know how it turns out. Cheerio, stay safe too!
