Seeking advice: Knocking combustion in 2018 Renault Fluence - increased fuel consumption and power loss

Hi guys, I've been having problems with my petrol engine for some time now, a 2018 Renault Fluence that already has 65227 km on the clock. The indicator light is on, the engine loses power, jerks when accelerating, consumes much more fuel than usual and makes strange noises. I was told that it could be due to knocking combustion in at least one cylinder. Has anyone ever had similar problems and can tell me about their experiences, especially regarding the repair at the mechanic? Unfortunately, I didn't have a very good experience on my last visit to the garage. In a nutshell: I'm really at a loss and don't know what to do. Thank you for your advice! Best regards!

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Renault Fluence is experiencing issues such as increased fuel consumption, power loss, jerking during acceleration, and strange noises, with an indicator light on. These symptoms suggest knocking combustion, potentially caused by deposits in the combustion chamber. A suggested solution is to perform an Engine Carbon Cleaning to remove these deposits, which has been effective in similar cases. Seeking a reliable garage for this service is recommended to restore normal engine function.

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2015 Renault Megane. The indicator light was also on and the engine was running very rough. It turned out that deposits in the combustion chamber were causing the problem. My mechanic had to perform an Engine Carbon Cleaning to remove these deposits and restore the engine to normal function. It was quite a serious problem and I lost a few weeks of driving time. Your engine is also showing symptoms that could indicate deposits in the combustion chamber. I would recommend you take your car to a garage as soon as possible and have a carbon cleaning done. Maybe look for another garage if you weren't happy with your last experience. It's really important to pay attention to this! Good luck with it, regards!

Hey, thanks for your tip! To be honest, I've never heard of an engine carbon cleaning, but I'll take my car to the garage to be on the safe side and talk to them about it. Do you happen to remember how much you paid for it? And did you have any further problems afterwards or did everything run smoothly again? Have a nice day, best regards!

Hey, of course I still remember the repair costs. I had to fork out €425 to remove the deposits in the combustion chamber. Since the repair, my bike has been running like new again, so I really can't complain. The knocking combustion on at least one cylinder was also fixed afterwards. Really, since I had the car at the mechanic, everything has been fine again. No more indicator lights or strange noises. Fuel consumption is also back to normal. So I can only advise you to give it a try in your place. I hope this helps you. Best regards!

Hey, wow, that sounds really encouraging! 425 euros isn't exactly cheap, but if it solves the problem, it's definitely worth the money. I'll go to the nearest garage tomorrow and pass on your tip. You've really helped me out! At least now I'm no longer at a loss and have a plan. Thank you very much and have a nice day! Best regards!
