Seeking Diagnosis and Trustworthy Mechanic for 2012 Lexus GS with Check Engine Light and Tank Flap Issues

Hey Car Gurus! Need some advice here. I got a 2012 Lexus GS, Gasoline engine, clocked 176,957KM and recently noticing a couple of distress signals. Check engine light's been on, there’s a warning light showing up on the speedometer, and a stored fault. I've got a hunch it might be related to issues with the tank flap not unlocking properly. Anyone experienced this before and can lend a hand with some diagnosis? And importantly, got any mechanic recommendations? Had a rotten experience last time and looking for someone trustworthy. Appreciate any tips or tricks! Cheers.

Summary of the thread

Hey there! Coincidentally, I have a 2009 Lexus IS, which went through a similar bout a while back. Like you, my check engine light was on and the tank flap was acting up a bit. After a fair bit of investigation, it turned out my issue was due to a defective linkage system. It wasn't an easy fix, required quite a bit of work from my garage-. He had to investigate, diagnose and eventually replace the whole linkage system to get the car to run smoothly again. I'd definitely label it as a big job as my car was in the shop for a couple of days. As for mechanics, well, I'd suggest you do some real due diligence because it's a fiddly problem to fix, needs someone who knows their way around Lexus cars. Can't give names but you get the idea. All the best!

Hey! Appreciate the detailed response. Sounds like our Lexus cars have got quite a bit in common, given the whole linkage system was the culprit in your case. Now that's something my mechanic and I have to consider. I've got a couple of questions if you don't mind. Do you recall how much this set you back? Financial planning and all of that, you know. And any more problems with your car after you got this sorted out? Cheers!

Hey there, Happy to help fellow car enthusiasts, especially those who share the Lexus love! The whole repair process for the defective linkage cost me about 210€, so it wasn't exactly cheap. But it got the job done, and in fairness, these luxury cars do deserve some luxury care, if you know what I mean. To your second question, about any further issues, honestly, I haven't experienced any more problems. The fix for the tank flap did the trick and it's been behaving ever since the mechanic sorted it out. The only light I'm seeing now is the one illuminating the road ahead! Good luck with your own repair journey! Don't forget to treat your Lexus well and I'm sure she'll return the favor. Cheers!

Hey! Thanks for the prompt reply and the heads up about the costs. Yep, owning a luxury car comes with its own set of expenses, right? Good to hear that your car has been behaving well post the fix. That gives me a bit of relief honestly. I will talk to my mechanic and see how we can proceed with this, keeping your experience in mind. Thanks for sharing your insights. Really appreciate it. Cheers!
