Seicento crankshaft camshaft reference value error

Alright, Fiat Seicento owners, I'm pulling my hair out here! My 2001 Seicento (gasoline engine) is throwing a 'crankshaft to camshaft reference value' error. Mileage is at 107132 km. The check engine light is on, power is way down, throttle response is laggy, and I swear it's drinking fuel like crazy. I'm suspecting the crankshaft sensor, but has anyone else run into this?

Summary of the thread

A 2001 Fiat Seicento owner experienced a 'crankshaft to camshaft reference value' error, leading to reduced power, poor throttle response, and increased fuel consumption. The issue was suspected to be related to the crankshaft sensor. After considering potential causes like timing belt issues or damaged sensor cables, the owner decided to have the vehicle professionally diagnosed. The problem was confirmed to be a faulty crankshaft sensor, which was replaced, resolving the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Whoa, sounds rough! I'm no expert, but that sounds like a timing issue. Is your timing belt in good shape? Maybe it jumped a tooth? Or is the sensor cable well connected? I had similar misfire symptoms when a squirrel chewed through some wires.

Timing belt was replaced about 30,000 km ago, so I wouldn't expect that, but I guess it's worth checking. I visually inspected the sensor cable, but I'll check the wires properly. How do you determine if the sensor is actually defective?

Yeah, those electrical gremlins are the worst! If it's not something obvious like a damaged cable, it's tricky to know for sure without proper diagnostics. I'd hate for you to replace the sensor and it turns out to be something else entirely. Might be worth biting the bullet and taking it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed. Frustrating, I know!

You're right, chasing ghosts is getting me nowhere. Took it to the shop; turns out it was the crankshaft sensor. 340€ later and she's running like new again. Thanks for the nudge!
