Sentra hybrid exhaust leak
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Nissan Sentra Hybrid was experiencing intermittent check engine light activation, reduced engine power, and increased fuel consumption. The problem was suspected to be related to a faulty exhaust temperature sensor or an exhaust leak. A smoke test revealed a small leak near the exhaust temperature sensor, which was then repaired by replacing the sensor and a section of the exhaust, resolving the issue.

The exhaust system was visually inspected during the last service, approximately 5000 km ago. No apparent damage was noted at that time. Regarding strange noises, is it possible to have a leak without an audible indication?

Hmm, a visual inspection might not catch everything. Yeah, a small crack or a pinhole leak can definitely mess with the sensor readings without being super loud. Best bet is to get it properly smoke-tested at a workshop. They'll find it quick.

Thank you for the helpful suggestion. Based on your advice, I had the exhaust system smoke-tested. A small leak was indeed discovered near the exhaust temperature sensor. The sensor and a section of the exhaust were replaced for 265€. The issue is now resolved.

Hey! Sounds like a pain. Check engine light, power loss, and guzzling gas? Yikes! When was the last time you had your exhaust system checked out? Any weird noises coming from under the car?
