Serena air con failure

My 2000 Nissan Serena diesel's air con has completely given up. It won't switch on, there's a warning light, and the error memory is full of air con errors. I tried fiddling with the settings, but nothing works. Mileage is only 72021 km, so it shouldn't be this knackered already, right?

Summary of the thread

A 2000 Nissan Serena diesel's air conditioning system has failed, with the unit not switching on and a warning light indicating errors. The problem may be due to a faulty air conditioning control unit, as suggested by another owner who experienced similar issues. The recommended solution is to visit a workshop for diagnosis and potential replacement of the control unit.

I also drive a Serena and had similar issues last year. Does the air conditioning clutch engage at all? Can you hear a click when you turn the AC on?

I'm not sure about the clutch engaging. I don't hear any click, but the engine is quite loud anyway. What was the problem with yours? Was it a big job to fix?

Mine behaved exactly as you describe. In my case, the workshop identified the AC control unit as the culprit. Unfortunately, a new unit and labor set me back quite a bit. I advise you to visit a workshop. They will probably come to the same conclusion.

Sounds like mine is heading the same way. I'll book it into a workshop and brace myself for a hefty bill! They quoted me 980€ for the defective air conditioning control unit.
