Serena Air Flap Issue

My 2002 Nissan Serena with a gasoline engine is having active air flap issues. The check engine light is on and it's overheating. It seems like the air flap electromechanism is defective. Has anyone seen this before?

Sounds familiar! I had something similar happen with my old Volvo V70. The fault code pointed to the grille shutter, and the engine was running hotter than usual. Check the wiring and the actuator itself. Maybe it's just a loose connection or a faulty sensor.

When you had this issue, were the error codes specific about which flap was defective? What made you focus on the electromechanism, and did you do any other tests before deciding the whole system needed work?

The code was pretty generic, something like "air intake regulation malfunction." Honestly, I poked around a bit, but knowing my limitations, I took it to a shop. They confirmed the actuator was shot. Saved me a lot of headache. Probably best to get it checked out, especially with the overheating.

I took it to a shop, and they found a defective air flap electromechanism, like we thought. The repair was 590€. Your experience helped a lot in figuring out what was wrong quickly.
