Serena Air Suspension Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Nissan Serena with a diesel engine is experiencing air suspension issues, including failure to lift, leaning to one side, and a bumpy ride. The problem may be linked to a defective suspension air bag valve, as indicated by error messages and a hissing sound near the air springs. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle inspected and repaired by a workshop experienced in pneumatic suspension systems to prevent further damage.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't really listened for any hissing sounds, I'll give that a try tomorrow. Where exactly should I be listening? And if it is the valve, is it a big job to fix?

Okay, so listen closely near each of the air springs, especially around the valve where the air line connects. A hissing sound is a dead giveaway. Regarding the 'big job' question, well, let's just say it's not a simple nut-and-bolt affair. In my case, it definitely pointed to a defective suspension air bag valve. Given the symptoms you're describing, and to be on the safe side, I'd recommend taking it to a reputable workshop with experience in pneumatic suspension systems. You might be looking at around 590€ for a repair, but it's better than causing further damage.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I checked for hissing and I could hear some from the left side bellows valve. Sounds like it is pretty much what you said. I'll book it into a workshop as you suggested. Cheers!

Ah, the joys of air suspension! I had something similar happen with my Serena, although it's a slightly newer model. Leaning, error messages, the whole shebang. Does it sound like there's air escaping from anywhere near the suspension? That was my first clue.
