Serena fuel pressure issue

My 2000 Nissan Serena with a diesel engine is showing some concerning symptoms. The check engine light is on, the engine stalls at idle, and power is noticeably reduced. Mileage is at 227176 km. After replacing the fuel filter, I suspect a defective fuel pressure regulator. Any thoughts?

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my old Opel Astra after a fuel filter change – rough idle, check engine light, the whole shebang. Did you check for any error codes? Maybe the system needs to be reset after the filter replacement.

Yes, there's an error code pointing to the fuel pressure regulator. Could the filter change directly cause the regulator to fail, or is it more likely a coincidence?

In my case, the garage told me that sometimes air gets into the fuel system during the filter change, which can mess with the pressure readings and trigger the sensor. Could also damage the sensor. Probably best to get it checked out properly, though.

Thanks, I appreciate the insight. Took it to the workshop, and you were right - the fuel pressure regulator was indeed defective. Replaced it for 45€, and the error entry was cleared. Runs like new now.
