Siena oil pressure warning
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Fiat Siena diesel exhibited an oil pressure warning light and loud mechanical noises, raising concerns about potential engine damage. Initial checks ruled out oil leakage and incorrect oil viscosity. The issue was identified as a defect in the oil pump, which required replacement. Addressing the problem promptly prevented further engine damage, resolving the warning light and noise issues.

Thanks for the quick response! Yes, the noise definitely gets louder with the revs. How did you resolve your issue? Was it definitely the oil pump, and if so, was it a major job to fix?

Yes, in my case it was a defect in the oil pump. It's a fairly involved job as the pump is driven from the crankshaft, so access isn't straightforward. I'd strongly suggest getting it checked out by a workshop sooner rather than later, as running the engine with low oil pressure can cause catastrophic damage. Ignoring it is really not an option.

Thanks so much for your help! I took it to a local workshop, and you were spot on – it was the oil pump. They replaced it, and the total bill came to 755€. Engine sounds much better now, and no more warning lights! I really appreciate your advice; it saved me a lot of worry and potentially a much bigger bill down the line.

I had a similar issue with my Siena. Does the noise get louder as the engine revs increase? It could very well be low oil pressure. Have you checked the oil pump itself? Those symptoms are concerning and could indicate serious engine damage if not addressed quickly.
