Sienna Power Steering Issue

My 2005 Toyota Sienna, gasoline engine, with 134368 km is showing alarming power steering behavior. The steering wheel vibrates, handling is spongy, and there's a fault logged. Steering requires a lot of effort. Could a defective cable or plug connection cause this? Has anyone else had this issue?

Sienna owner here too. Sounds familiar. I had similar issues. Any noises coming from the steering pump when you turn the wheel?

Good point! There's a faint whine from what I think is the steering pump. Could this sound mean something bigger? Could it be a pressure hose, or the steering column?

Could be the pump, or maybe a hose. I'm no expert. My advice? Take it to a shop.

Your suggestion helped. A defective plug connection, costing 95€ to fix, was the problem. The Toyota now steers great. Thanks for your help!
