Silverado charge air temperature sensor issue

Hey, I'm having a frustrating issue with my 2016 Chevrolet Silverado diesel. The check engine light keeps popping on, and the truck feels like it's lost a ton of power. Plus, I'm hearing this weird whistling noise, almost like a loud hissing when I accelerate. I plugged in my OBD reader and it's showing a charge air temperature sensor error. Anyone else experienced this? It's only got 44973 km on the clock! I'm a bit lost and hoping it's not a major repair.

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Chevrolet Silverado diesel is experiencing a check engine light, reduced power, and a whistling noise, with an OBD reader indicating a charge air temperature sensor error. Possible causes include loose connections, damaged wires, or corrosion in the sensor's wiring. The suggested solution is to inspect and potentially repair the wiring and connectors, which resolved the issue for another owner with a similar problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with my Silverado – although I can't remember the build year exactly. The reduced power and whistling sound are dead giveaways. Have you checked the wiring and connectors to the charge air temperature sensor? That was my problem, and it's apparently quite common.

Thanks for the tip! Where exactly is that sensor located, and what am I looking for in terms of wiring or connector issues? I'm not super mechanically inclined, but I'm willing to take a look before heading to the shop. Any specific things to watch out for?

Okay, on mine, the sensor was located in the air intake, right after the intercooler. Look for any loose connections, damaged wires, or corrosion. Give the plug a good wiggle and see if anything changes with the engine running (do this carefully!). But honestly, if you aren't confident, it might be best to just get it checked professionally. These sensors are kinda sensitive, and it might save you time and prevent causing further damage.

Appreciate the advice! I took it to my local mechanic, and you were spot on. Turns out it was a dodgy connection on the charge air temperature sensor. They cleaned it up and replaced a short section of damaged wire. Cost me about 95€, which is way better than I was expecting. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
