Skoda Citigo Electric Headlight Range Problem

I'm tearing my hair out over this headlight issue on my 2020 Skoda Citigo (electric engine)! The car has clocked 194111 km and I'm getting a 'Headlight Range Control Fault' error stored in the error memory, plus a warning light constantly glaring at me from the speedometer. The main problem is that the low beams are either shining way too far down or, occasionally, way too far up. I've checked the headlight switch, fuses, and even tried a basic reset, but nothing seems to work. From what I've read online, it might be a defective servomotor in the headlight itself? Has anyone else experienced something similar?

That sounds frustrating! It's good you've already checked the basics. Have you tried wiggling the electrical connectors to the headlight and the headlight switch? Sometimes a loose connection can cause weird issues with the range control. Also, is there any sign of water ingress in the headlight unit itself? Moisture can definitely mess with the control module. Does the light intensity change at all?

Thanks for the quick response! I did give the electrical connectors a look-see, but didn't do any real wiggling. I also didn't notice any water inside the headlight housing, but I'll definitely double-check that. When you say 'control module', are you referring to the one built into the headlight itself, or is there a separate module somewhere else in the car that controls the headlight range? And what do you mean by 'light intensity'? The brightness of the beam?

Okay, so wiggling the connectors and checking for water ingress are good first steps. By 'control module', I do mean the one integrated into the headlight assembly. And yes, 'light intensity' refers to the brightness of the beam. Since you've checked the basics, and the problem persists, it really does sound like the servomotor is the culprit. Given the cost of potentially misdiagnosing it yourself with parts, and the car's mileage, I'd probably recommend taking it to a reputable workshop with experience in automotive electrics. They'll have the diagnostic tools to pinpoint the issue and replace the faulty component.

Well, I took your advice and brought my Citigo to the workshop. You were spot on! Turns out the servomotor in the headlight was indeed defective, just as you suspected. They replaced it, ran some diagnostics, and recalibrated the headlight range control. The error is gone, the warning light is off, and my low beams are finally pointing where they should. The repair set me back around 1040€, which is a hefty sum, but at least it's fixed now. Thanks a bunch for your help! I really appreciate you taking the time to point me in the right direction.
