Skoda Citigo Overheating Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Skoda Citigo with a gasoline engine was experiencing overheating and a check engine light, suspected to be caused by a defective active air flap motor. The issue was confirmed through a diagnostic scan indicating a fault in the electromechanism of the active air flap. The solution involved replacing the flap motor, which resolved the overheating problem and cleared the check engine light.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did a quick visual inspection, and the flap seems to be stuck. I also did a diagnostic scan, and it points to a problem with the electromechanism of the active air flap. By the way, do you remember if you had the same fault code? Or was it the flap motor itself?

Okay, electromechanism fault sounds like the flap motor itself. I didn't do the repair myself, so I don't know the exact fault code I'm afraid, but the symptoms were identical. I'd recommend taking it to a workshop to get it checked out properly, especially with the overheating. The grille shutter is part of the cooling system, and it's important to get it sorted.

Just got the Citigo back from the shop. It was indeed the flap motor. Diagnostic scan showed the fault code. New grille shutter installed, cooling system seems fine now. Cost 590€ but at least the check engine light is off and no more overheating.

Sounds similar to a problem I had with my Citigo. Is the active air flap stuck open or closed? When mine failed, it was causing the engine to run hotter than usual. Did you do a diagnostic scan to check for fault codes?
