Skoda Citigo Start Stop Problem

I'm getting really frustrated with my 2011 Skoda Citigo. It has a gasoline engine. The start-stop system has completely stopped working! The engine shuts off as it should, and there is a warning light, but most of the time, it refuses to do an automatic restart, sometimes even leading to engine stalling. There's an error stored in the error memory too. Could it be a defective car battery?

That sounds very familiar! I had a similar issue with my Citigo’s start-stop system. The engine would shut off at lights, but then sometimes wouldn't do an automatic restart. Very annoying. I also got a warning light. Have you noticed if the engine start seems weaker than usual?

Interesting! Yes, sometimes the engine start feels a little sluggish, like the starter motor is struggling a bit. Was your issue also related to a weak car battery then?

Yep, that sluggish engine start is a telltale sign! In my case, the car battery was heavily discharged and couldn't handle the start-stop system's demands anymore. I’d recommend getting your car battery checked properly. It's probably the easiest and cheapest thing to rule out. If it’s the battery, replacing it should solve the problem. Otherwise, you should go to a workshop.

Alright, I took your advice and brought it to the shop. Turns out you were spot on! The car battery was indeed the culprit. They replaced it, and the start-stop system is working like a charm again. Cost me 290€, but at least it's fixed. Thanks a bunch for your help!
