Skoda Fabia Air Conditioning Problem
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Skoda Fabia with 195,885 km has an air conditioning issue where it fails to cool, likely due to a malfunctioning rear ventilation flap actuator or its connections. The problem is identified by an error in the climate control unit's memory, suggesting a defective cable or plug connection. The recommended solution is to have a professional workshop diagnose and repair the actuator or its wiring, which successfully resolved the issue for a cost of 95€.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not really sure about the climate control, it just seems to be blowing hot air, even when set to cold. I haven't checked any fuses, to be honest. What does the flap actuator actually do, and where would I find it? No idea about the error code unfortunately. Is that something a normal system diagnostics tool would pick up?

Okay, given the symptoms and the error memory mentioning the rear ventilation flap, I'd say it's highly likely the issue is with the flap actuator or its wiring. As for what it does, it's basically a small motor that controls the position of the flap that directs air to different areas of the car. Regarding finding it - that's tricky and usually requires some dismantling, specifically around the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) unit. Yes, any decent system diagnostics tool should be able to read the error code, which will confirm the fault. Honestly, at this point, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop that specializes in HVAC repair. They can diagnose the problem properly and replace the actuator if needed.

Just wanted to say thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Turns out it was, as you suspected, a dodgy connection on the rear ventilation flap actuator. The garage charged me 95€ to sort it, which I'm happy with. At least I have air conditioning again!

Sounds like you've got a problem with the rear ventilation flap. When you say the climate control unit is malfunctioning, what exactly is it doing? Have you checked the fuses? The flap actuator is responsible for directing air, so if it's faulty, it could explain why the air conditioning isn't cooling properly. The error memory probably stores a code related to the flap actuator. Do you know the exact error code? It would help narrow things down. Air circulation and air distribution are key here – the flap controls where the air goes.
