Summary of the thread
A 2018 Skoda Fabia diesel was experiencing reduced engine performance and an error light, with a basic code reader indicating an issue with the engine control unit (ECU). The problem was suspected to be related to the vehicle's electronics, specifically a faulty main relay powering the ECU. Thanks for the quick reply. How would I check the main relay? Can I do that myself, or should I take it to a professional?

While you might be able to check the relay yourself with a multimeter if you're comfortable with vehicle electronics, it’s probably best to take it to a shop. They can properly diagnose the control system and confirm if it's the relay or something else causing the ECU issue.

Just letting you know, you were right. The shop found a faulty main relay for the ECU. They replaced it and cleared the codes, and the Fabia runs great now. It was about 120€, thanks for the help.

Sounds like a potential issue with the vehicle electronics, specifically the engine control system. The reduced engine performance and stored error codes point to that. Have you checked the main relay that powers the ECU? A defective relay is a common culprit.
