Skoda Fabia Diesel Engine Power Loss and Smoke

I have a 2018 Skoda Fabia with a diesel engine and almost 100000 km on the clock. I've noticed reduced engine power and smoke when accelerating. I think it might be a defective diesel particulate filter. Could that be it?

Reduced power and smoke could mean a blocked DPF. Have you seen any changes in your fuel economy recently? A bad DPF can cause that. Also, is the engine light on?

Yes, the engine light is on. What's involved in DPF cleaning? Can I do it myself, or is a vehicle inspection needed?

DPF cleaning can sometimes help, but with the engine light and other signs, the DPF is probably too damaged to regenerate. I'd suggest a workshop inspection to confirm.

Thanks for the info. I followed your advice and visited the workshop. The inspection confirmed the DPF was faulty. The repair cost me 1550€. Hopefully, my fuel economy will be better now.
