Skoda Fabia Diesel Preheating Issues

I'm at my wit's end here. My 2003 Skoda Fabia with a diesel engine is giving me headaches. The preheating lamp refuses to switch off, and to top it off, the check engine light decided to join the party. It has 222362 km on the clock. Plus, there's this annoying smoke puffing out when I accelerate. I've read somewhere that a likely cause could be a defective cable or plug connection of the preheating control unit. Any thoughts?

Preheating lamp staying on and smoke could point to issues with the ignition system or vehicle heater. Could be an electrical fault. Not sure though.

Electrical fault? You mean like a defective part in the car preheater? Any idea what to check first?

Yeah, maybe. I am only guessing but sounds like a defective part is possible. Honestly, might be best to get it checked out at a workshop. They can probably diagnose the electrical fault properly.

It was indeed a defective preheating control unit. The cable and plug connections were the likely culprits as mentioned. I got it sorted for 95€. Thanks for your input!
