Skoda Fabia Engine Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Skoda Fabia with a gasoline engine is experiencing increased fuel consumption, a check engine light, and a loud hissing sound during acceleration. These symptoms suggest a possible air intake system leak, specifically a vacuum leak in the intake hose. Inspection revealed a significant split in the intake hose, which was replaced, leading to improved fuel economy.

Intake hose specifically? Is that a common failure point? Where exactly should I be looking for the leak? I'm not sure how to perform leak detection.

Yes, the intake hose is a known weak spot. Cracks often develop over time. If you're not comfortable diagnosing it yourself, I would recommend taking it to a trusted workshop. They'll perform a smoke test and pinpoint the leak quickly.

Confirmed. The intake hose had a significant split. Replacement cost about 100€. Fuel economy is already improving. Thanks for the advice.

Sounds like a vacuum leak. I had similar symptoms in my Fabia: check engine light, hissing sound, and terrible fuel economy. Did you inspect the intake hose between the air filter box and the intake manifold?
