Skoda Fabia Loud Exhaust Noise
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Skoda Fabia with a gasoline engine is experiencing unusually loud exhaust noise, resembling a tractor sound after a cold start. An error related to the exhaust flaps is stored in the memory, suggesting a defective exhaust flap as a potential cause. The issue was resolved by replacing the faulty exhaust flap motor, which restored normal engine performance.

The flap actuator, huh? Where exactly is that located, and is it something I could potentially check myself before taking it to a mechanic?

The flap motor is attached to the exhaust. You could try to locate it and check the wiring, but honestly, it's probably seized up internally. If you're not comfortable poking around, I'd suggest getting it checked at a workshop. A faulty flap can definitely mess with engine performance, especially at lower RPMs.

Took it to the shop, and you nailed it. The exhaust flap motor was busted. They replaced the whole thing, cost me 190€. Runs like new now!

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms with my Fabia – louder exhaust noise, especially when cold. Error code pointed to the exhaust valves. Have you checked the flap actuator? That's often the culprit.
