Skoda Fabia Transmission Issue

I am experiencing some trouble with my 2019 Skoda Fabia which has a gasoline engine and around 108445 km. The check engine light and transmission indicator are both illuminated. The gearbox is slipping and shifting uncleanly and there is a grinding noise when shifting gears. The error memory indicates a defective automatic transmission converter. Could this be a clutch problem?

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Skoda Fabia with a gasoline engine and 108,445 km is experiencing transmission issues, indicated by the check engine light and transmission indicator. The symptoms include gearbox slipping, unclean shifting, and a grinding noise when shifting gears. The error memory points to a defective automatic transmission converter, specifically the torque converter lock-up clutch. The suggested solution is to have the torque converter replaced, as confirmed by a certified shop.

Whoa, sounds rough! Had something similar happen with my old Vauxhall Astra. Started with the engine surging a bit, then the shifts got real sloppy. Eventually, it threw a CEL and the transmission was basically toast. Was the error code related to the torque converter lock-up clutch? If so, yeah, it probably is the converter. Did you notice any grinding or slipping, especially when the car was supposed to lock up in overdrive?

The error code does mention the lock-up clutch. Can you elaborate on the grinding and slipping you experienced?

Yep, that sounds familiar. The grinding was most noticeable during shifts, especially under load, like going uphill. The slipping felt like the engine was revving up, but the car wasn't accelerating properly – almost like a manual clutch slipping. If your error code is pointing to the torque converter lock-up clutch specifically, it's highly likely the converter is buggered. Best get it checked by a decent auto transmission shop. They'll be able to confirm it and give you a proper quote for a replacement.

Thank you for the information. I took it to a certified shop and they confirmed the torque converter needs to be replaced. The repair will cost 2120€.
