Skoda Fabia Turbo Issue

I have a 2002 Skoda Fabia with a gasoline engine. The check engine light is on, and the car is behaving terribly. When accelerating, it feels like it's jerking, and there's a distinct whistling noise, almost like a loud hissing sound, especially when the turbo kicks in. Sometimes, the engine even stalls at idle. I've also noticed higher fuel consumption and a definite reduction in engine power. I suspect it might be related to the turbo system, possibly the turbo boost pressure sensor. I've read that a defective cable or plug connection could be the culprit. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Any advice would be greatly appreciated before I'm forced to visit the repair shop!

Sounds like a boost leak. I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra. Check engine light, loss of power, the whole shebang. The hissing noise is a classic symptom. Could be a faulty sensor, but also check all the hoses connected to the turbocharger. Any cracks or loose connections there?

Hoses seem okay at first glance, but I'm no expert. When you say sensor, are you referring to the turbo boost pressure sensor? And how exactly did you find the leak on your Astra? Was it obvious?

Yes, I meant the turbo boost pressure sensor. On my Astra, it wasn't immediately obvious. I had to wiggle the cable a bit while the engine was running, and that's when I noticed the change in engine sound. The mechanic then confirmed it was a faulty connection. Honestly, at this point, you're probably best off taking it to a workshop. They have the tools to properly diagnose a boost leak and check the sensor readings.

You are a lifesaver! I took your advice and went to the workshop. You were spot on it was the cable connection to the turbo boost pressure sensor. They fixed it for 95€, and now my Fabia runs like new again. No more jerking or whistling! Thanks a million!
