Skoda Kamiq Engine Issue

Alright, so I'm having a bit of a headache with my 2022 Skoda Kamiq with a gasoline engine. It's got about 204867 km on the clock, and recently the engine light popped up. The engine is running rough, and I can smell a strong exhaust fume. I suspect it's related to the exhaust treatment system. Could a defective lambda sensor be the culprit here? I've read about potential issues with the EGR valve and NOx sensors as well, but I'm hoping it's just a simple sensor issue.

Summary of the thread

A 2022 Skoda Kamiq with a gasoline engine and 204,867 km on the odometer exhibited a rough-running engine and a strong exhaust smell, accompanied by an engine light. The initial suspicion was a defective lambda sensor, with potential issues also considered in the exhaust treatment system, such as the EGR valve and NOx sensors. After consulting with another owner who experienced similar symptoms, it was confirmed that the lambda sensor was indeed faulty. Replacing the sensor resolved the issue, eliminating the engine light and restoring smooth engine performance.

Hey, I had a similar issue with my Kamiq not too long ago. The engine light came on and it was running rough. Definitely check your oxygen sensor first, specifically the lambda sensor. A defective one can cause all sorts of exhaust treatment malfunctions. Have you noticed any strong exhaust smells, or exhaust leaking?

Interesting! Was it just the lambda sensor in your case, or did you have to deal with other components like the EGR valve or NOx sensors? And did you notice any difference in fuel consumption or performance before you got it fixed?

Yep, for me it was just the lambda sensor. The rough running and the engine light were the main symptoms. Fuel consumption took a hit too, now that you mention it. I'd suggest getting it checked at a workshop. They can diagnose it properly and confirm if it's the sensor. Don't ignore it, as it can cause further damage to the catalytic converter if left unfixed.

Took it to a trusted shop and you were spot on. Turns out the lambda sensor was indeed faulty. New one installed, engine light is gone, and it runs like a charm again. Cost me 375€ all in. Thanks a lot for your help and insights!
