Skoda Kodiaq RS Diesel problems with misfiring for some time now

Hi everyone, I have a problem with my 2019 Skoda Kodiaq Diesel (98,765 km) and am hoping for some advice. My car is showing the following symptoms: - Black smoke from the exhaust when accelerating - Check engine light on - Loss of engine power - Unsettled engine - Jerking when accelerating - Car won't start - Poor fuel economy - Stalling when idling - Shaking when idling I suspect it could be due to a faulty ignition coil or misfiring. Have any of you had similar problems and can recommend a reliable garage? What were your experiences? Thank you!

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Skoda Kodiaq Diesel was experiencing issues such as black smoke, check engine light, loss of power, and misfiring. The suspected cause was a faulty ignition coil or misfiring. However, advice from another user suggested the problem might be a faulty engine control unit, which was confirmed by a mechanic. After replacing the engine control unit, the vehicle's performance improved significantly, resolving all symptoms.

Hello, I had similar symptoms with my 2016 Skoda Octavia Diesel. It turned out that the engine control unit was faulty. Unfortunately, this is not a small problem. In my case, the engine showed the same symptoms: - Black smoke - Check engine light on - Loss of power - Unsettled engine - Jerking The garage first did a diagnosis to confirm the fault. Once it was clear that the engine control unit was faulty, a new one had to be installed and programmed. They also checked the wiring to make sure there were no other electrical problems. I can only recommend that you visit a good workshop as soon as possible. The engine control unit is essential for controlling the engine and should be repaired as soon as possible. Good luck! Hi, thanks for the info! Do you remember how much you paid for the repair and whether anything else occurred afterwards? I want to be prepared for all eventualities. Best regards,

Hello, sure, I can tell you that. I paid a total of €1000 for the repair of the engine control unit. It wasn't cheap, but since the repair my Skoda has been running perfectly again. The problems with the ignition coil and the misfiring have also been resolved since the workshop visit. Nothing else has occurred since the repair. The engine is now running smoothly again without misfiring, the black smoke has gone and the check engine light remains off. I also had no other problems with the electronics or other components. I hope this helps you! If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Best regards,

Hi, thanks for your quick reply! That really doesn't sound too favorable now, but I guess I should tackle that. I've already been to the mechanic today after reading your message. They checked the car and the engine control unit was indeed faulty. The repair was quick, but the cost... well, it was about 950€. Now my Kodiaq is running like a champ again. All the symptoms are gone, the engine is purring again and no more annoying lights on the dashboard. So, thanks again for your help! Without your tip, I would probably have puzzled over it for a long time. Best regards,
