Skoda Kodiaq Tailgate Hall Sensor Problem

Alright, I'm officially stumped. My 2019 Skoda Kodiaq with a gasoline engine is throwing a "Tailgate Hall Sensor Fault" code. The automatic tailgate only opens partially, and it's driving me nuts. I suspect a faulty vehicle sensor, possibly the hall sensor itself or the tailgate motor. I've read it could be a defective cable or plug connection. Anyone experienced this before? Any ideas before I start tearing things apart or end up at the mercy of the dealership?

A faulty hall sensor in the automatic tailgate system is a fairly common issue. Before throwing parts at it, have you checked the wiring harness that runs to the tailgate? Damage to the wires is a frequent culprit, especially near the hinges where they flex repeatedly. Are there any visible signs of wear, breaks, or corrosion on the connector itself? Also, was the sensor calibration done after the error code was cleared?

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, I cleared the error codes, but I didn't perform a sensor calibration. Is that a separate procedure needed even if the sensor is just reporting an intermittent fault? And regarding the wiring, I visually inspected it, but I didn't disconnect anything to check for corrosion inside the connector. Where exactly should I focus my attention on the wiring harness?

Given that the tailgate only opens partially and you're getting a hall sensor fault, the issue likely stems from the wiring or the sensor itself. While sensor calibration might resolve minor inconsistencies, it won't fix a broken connection. If a visual inspection didn't reveal anything, it's best to take it to a workshop. They have the tools to properly diagnose wiring issues and sensor function, potentially saving you time and frustration.

I followed your advice and took it to the shop. They confirmed it was a faulty connection to the hall sensor in the tailgate. They cleaned the contacts and secured the connection. The error code is gone, and the tailgate is working perfectly again. Cost me 95€ Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
