Skoda Octavia Handsfree Microphone Failure

My 2018 Skoda Octavia diesel has suddenly decided it doesn't want to do telephony anymore. Basically, the hands-free microphone has packed it in. I get an error stored in the error memory. My gut feeling points to a defective infotainment system. Before I start ripping apart the dashboard, has anyone else experienced this? Is there a known fix, or am I looking at a costly replacement? It’s affecting both audio input and voice recognition. This Bluetooth issue is making me crazy!

Hmm, that sounds familiar. Had a similar Bluetooth issue with my previous car, although it was a different make. Before you jump to replacing the whole unit, have you tried a hard reset of the audio system? Sometimes a simple reset can clear up software glitches that might be affecting the microphone's audio input and voice recognition. Also, double-check all your Bluetooth settings and make sure the Skoda's system has permission to access the microphone. What's the sound quality like when you try to use voice commands for navigation?

Thanks for the quick response! I did try a factory reset, but no luck. Bluetooth settings seem fine, phone is connected. Regarding your question about navigation, the voice recognition doesn't work at all. It's like the microphone is completely dead. Anything else I can try before I start pricing new audio systems?

Yeah, it really does sound like the infotainment unit itself. Since you've already tried the reset and the voice recognition is totally gone, it's pointing more towards a hardware problem than just a software glitch. Sadly, these integrated systems can be a pain when they fail. I think the only thing you can do is take it to a workshop. They can run a proper diagnostic to confirm the issue before you start spending money.

Huge thanks for your insights. Took it to the dealer, and you nailed it – the infotainment system was indeed the culprit. They quoted 815€ for the repair, ouch! But at least I can now make calls again. Appreciate the help!
