Skoda Octavia Hybrid Overvoltage Issues

I'm reaching out because I'm experiencing some really concerning issues with my Skoda Octavia, a 2021 Hybrid. I'm getting a lot of fault memory entries about overvoltage and circuit protection kicking in. This is causing all sorts of systems to fail intermittently, and sometimes the battery seems weak when starting the engine. I suspect the battery is the issue, but I'm not sure how to proceed. I'm worried about damaging the car ECU or high voltage components. Has anyone else experienced something similar with their car electronics?

Overvoltage issues can be a real headache, especially with modern car electronics. My old Peugeot had similar symptoms a while back random system failures, weak starts, the whole shebang. Turned out, for me, that it was a faulty voltage regulator causing the battery to overcharge intermittently. Maybe check the charging system? Also, have you had the battery tested to see if it's holding a charge properly? What kind of fault codes are you seeing exactly? Knowing the codes could point you in the right direction for diagnosis.

That's interesting, thank you! I haven't specifically checked the voltage regulator. The error codes mostly point to overvoltage in various car ECU modules. I'm not sure how to properly test the voltage regulator though, and also I'm unsure how to identify the fault codes? I'm not very experienced with car electronics, so I don't want to mess anything up. Is there a safe way to check it without causing more damage?

Yeah, messing with car electronics without the right knowledge can definitely lead to more problems. If you're seeing a lot of overvoltage codes, and especially with a weak battery, it might be best to take it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose the issue and have the right tools to test the charging system and battery. It's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to high voltage systems.

Thank you so much for your insights and sharing your experience. It seems like you were right. I took it to a workshop, and after some diagnostics, they confirmed that the battery was indeed heavily discharged and causing all sorts of electrical mayhem. They replaced it, and the overvoltage errors are gone, and everything seems to be working fine now. The whole thing cost me about 290€, which isn't great, but at least it's fixed. I really appreciate your help!
