Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't noticed any visible leaks around the calipers. There is an intermittent squeal, almost like metal brakes grinding, but only at low speeds. Could undervoltage really cause that? Seems odd.

Undervoltage can definitely cause issues with the ABS system, which can affect pedal feel and cause the symptoms you describe. The squealing could be related to the brake pads not retracting properly due to electrical issues affecting the brake calipers. I'd suggest getting the battery and charging system checked, and then have the brake system professionally inspected. It is probably best to take it to a workshop.

Took it to the workshop as suggested. Undervoltage was indeed the culprit, affecting the hydraulic brakes. A new battery and brake check later, the squeaky brakes are gone. Cost me 240€, thanks for the help.

Strange feedback from the brake pedal is not something to ignore. I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane. The pedal feel was inconsistent, sometimes spongy, sometimes almost solid. I would check the brake calipers for any signs of leakage or damage. Are you experiencing any squeaky brakes or grinding noises when braking?
