Skoda Praktik Cruise Control Issue

My 2009 Skoda Praktik with a gasoline engine has developed a problem. The cruise control suddenly stopped working the other day. Now I get an error message in the speedometer whenever I start the car, and the cruise control just doesn't engage at all. I scanned it with a code reader, and it's showing an error related to the cruise control system. The report suggests a cable or plug connection of the component defective. It has almost 200000 km. Any ideas what could be the issue? Is this a common problem? Is it diy-able?

I encountered a somewhat similar issue with my Skoda Praktik, though I cannot recall the exact error message. The cruise control system became inoperative intermittently. Based on your description, a defective cable or plug connection is plausible. Have you checked the fuse box for any blown fuses related to the car electronics or the cruise control system? A faulty system can arise from simple things.

Thanks for the reply! I did check the fuses, but everything seemed fine there. Where exactly is the cruise control actuator located? Is it something I could try to check myself, or would you recommend just taking it to a professional? Any idea if it's difficult to get to?

In my case, the issue persisted despite checking the fuses. To clarify, the cruise control actuator is the component that physically adjusts the throttle to maintain the set speed. While I am hesitant to provide specific instructions due to potential variations in models and the complexity of modern car electronics, I recommend seeking professional assistance. Given the error you're receiving and the potential for further complications, a qualified technician can accurately diagnose the root cause and implement the necessary repairs. It is best to avoid damaging a potentially intricate or faulty system.

Thanks for the help! Took it to a local garage and they found a loose connector on the cruise control actuator. They cleaned it up and reconnected it, and now it's working perfectly. Bill came to 95€, which is a lot better than a new system!
