Skoda Praktik Diesel Engine Trouble
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Skoda Praktik with a diesel engine was experiencing poor fuel efficiency and difficulty starting. The suspected cause was a defective accelerator pedal module affecting the throttle valve. After confirming the issue, replacing the accelerator pedal module resolved the problem, restoring normal fuel efficiency and improving engine start-up.

When you say 'throttle position sensor', are you referring to the sensor integrated into the accelerator pedal module, or is there another control valve sensor I should be looking at within the air intake system?

In my case, it was definitely linked to the accelerator pedal. A faulty module can mess with the throttle valve's operation. If you're not comfortable digging into the electronics, I'd advise a trip to the workshop. They can diagnose the throttle position accurately and confirm if that control valve sensor is the culprit.

It was the accelerator pedal module causing the throttle valve issue. Replacement cost 205€. Fuel efficiency is back to normal and the engine starts much better now. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

That sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my Skoda Praktik. The symptoms were almost identical: poor starting and my fuel consumption went through the roof. I'd check the throttle position sensor too.
