Skoda Praktik Engine Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Skoda Praktik owner experienced engine issues, including a check engine light, power loss, and smoke during acceleration. Suspecting the crankcase ventilation valve, specifically the PCV valve, as the cause, they sought advice on whether it could be a DIY fix. Another individual confirmed similar symptoms and suggested professional diagnosis and repair due to the complexity of accessing the valve. Ultimately, the owner had the valve professionally repaired, resolving the issues.

Thanks for the quick response! Rough idling isn't really an issue, it's more noticeable when accelerating, especially uphill. When you had this problem, were you able to drive the car at all, or was it completely undrivable? Also, where exactly is this PCV valve located? I'm not a total newbie, but I'm not sure where to find it in the engine bay. Any pointers would be great!

Yep, those symptoms match what I experienced almost exactly. I could still drive, but the power loss was significant, and the smoke was embarrassing. Honestly, unless you are really comfortable working on cars, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. The PCV valve on the Praktik can be a pain to get to, and you might end up breaking something else in the process. Plus, they can properly diagnose it to be 100% sure. Save yourself the headache and get a professional opinion. It sounds like the valve is defective and needs maintenance. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your help! I took it to a trusted mechanic, and you were spot on. It was indeed the crankcase ventilation valve. The total repair cost was around 360€, but now my Skoda Praktik runs smoothly again. No more check engine light or smoke. Really appreciate your advice!

Oh, man, that sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my Skoda Praktik, although I can't remember the exact mileage at the time. The check engine light was driving me crazy! Is the engine also idling rough, or is it just the reduced power and smoke? I'd put money on the PCV valve, as they are known to fail. Have you tried checking the hoses connected to it for any cracks or leaks? That could give you a clue before you start tearing things apart.
