Skoda Praktik wiper issue

My 2007 Skoda Praktik with a gasoline engine is presenting a frustrating problem. The windshield wipers are completely non functional. Diagnostic scan shows an error related to the wiper system stored in the error memory. Based on initial checks I'm suspecting a defective cable or plug connection on the component. I don't have cruise control. Has anyone experienced similar issues? Trying to avoid the 95€ repair bill if it's a simple fix.

I had a similar issue with my Praktik a while back. Windshield wipers packed it in completely. Have you checked the rain sensor? Sometimes a fault there can mess things up. Also, give the wiper switch wiring harness a good look for damage or loose plugs.

Interesting, could you elaborate on the rain sensor issue? I'm not sure where it's located or how it could cause a complete wiper failure. Also where exactly should I inspect the wiring harness focusing on?

The rain sensor can sometimes throw a wrench into the system, but if you have an error code pointing to the wiper circuit, focus there first. Check the wiring harness connections at the wiper switch itself, and where it connects to the main fuse box. Given the cost and your description, it's likely a connector issue, and the shop will likely just have to re-seat the connection or replace a simple plug.

You were spot on. Seems the wiper switch wiring harness had a dodgy connection. Workshop sorted it for the quoted 95€. Back on the road and seeing clearly again thanks to your helpful insight.
